Wellness/Healing
Tip 1: Quality Food
Eating pure, healthy food is, quite simply, one of the simplest,
easiest ways to foster wellness.
We’re all familiar with the
phrase: “Garbage in, garbage
out.” But we often don’t practice the intent of that
phrase when we make food choices. Yet, what we put in our mouths
is what
feeds our brains, our bodies, and ultimately, our souls.
Eating organic
is, indeed, more expensive than conventional food. But I was given
some great perspective on food costs on a date a
number of years ago, and I have always remembered it. Here’s
the gist of what happened:
“John” and I were sitting in a fine restaurant enjoying a
wonderful meal, and I commented that the food was very good, but
that is was
expensive. He looked me in the eye and said this:
“Courtney, jewelry for women is expensive. Fancy,
Italian sports cars are expensive. Food is NOT expensive, and it is
what you
put in your
body. SPEND the money on good, pure food, and don’t ever
regret it.”
Well, that was our first and last date, as
we were very different people. But I thank him to this day for
that little gem, and
I live by it.
So if you think you can’t afford to eat
natural beef, or organic fruits and vegetables, ask yourself this
question: Have
you ever chosen to spend your money on a new pair of shoes or a
piece of technology, yet ate cheap food containing hormones,
antibiotics,
chemical preservatives, or pesticides?
If the answer is “yes,” then
making yourself a healthier person is as simple as making
a different choice the next time around. Give up the
purse, or the latest i-pod, and invest in yourself by eating organic
food. Ten years from now, that purse or whiz-bang phone will
be history, but your
healthy body will be humming like a well-oiled machine.
